Posted 16 September, 2024

One of the world’s leading voices for food science and technology has named (opens in a new window)UCD VP for Global Engagement Professor Dolores O'Riordan as a new Fellow.

The (opens in a new window)International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST) is an internationally recognised group of elected individuals aiming to strengthen food science and technology’s role in helping secure the world’s food supply and eliminate world hunger.

The organisation elected Professor O'Riordan at its recent World Food Congress in recognition of her exceptional contributions to the field.

A voluntary, non-profit federation of national food science organisations linking the world’s food scientists and technologists, the IAFoST draws its Fellows from food scientists, technologists and engineers.

Once inducted, these Fellows serve as independenz persons, forming a pool of scientific expertise from which IUFoST may draw non-aligned expert advice on scientific matters.

Fellows elected to IAFoST are acknowledged by their peers as outstanding representatives of international food science and technology.

Responsible for the development and implementation of UCD’s Global Engagement Strategy, Professor O’Riordan has supervised over 40 postgraduate students to completion and has over 100 peer-reviewed publications.

She is UCD’s principal investigator in two large technology centres, Food for Health Ireland and the Dairy Processing Technology Centre

Her food research focuses on the physico-chemical properties of food ingredients and creating food structures that enhance health benefits, and through her research has active links with universities in Europe, the US, Australia and China.

She received the Enterprise Ireland 2012 Lifescience and Food Commercialisation Award in recognition of her exemplary contribution to innovation in the food industry.

Professor O’Riordan is currently the President of the (opens in a new window)European Federation of Food Science and Technology (EFFoST), an organisation which facilitates knowledge and technology exchange among food professionals.
