Celebrate UCD Global Week!
UCD Global Week is a university-wide celebration of global engagement and encompasses a great line-up of engaging events. From 23rd - 26th September, you can learn why UCD is ‘Ireland’s Global University’ with a series of events running across the Belfield campus.
The week will feature the many ways our university engages students internationally as well as exploring international partnerships and activities. Hear from your UCD colleagues on how they engage with international networks and alliances, and join us as we sample cuisine and cultural performances from around the world.

Schedule For Global Week at UCD
- World Foods/Coffee: The main restaurants on campus serve a variety of world cuisines, allowing students and staff to experience diverse culinary foods from different parts of the globe.
- UCDVO Stories of Change exhibition: Gerard Manley Hopkins Centre - This exhibition showcases the stories, experiences, and impacts of volunteers who have participated in UCDVO projects around the world. Through photographs, videos, testimonials, and interactive displays, the exhibition aims to highlight the transformative power of volunteerism and the positive change it brings to communities globally.
- 10:00 - 10:15 Global Week Welcome Address | UCD Global Lounge | Join us for a warm and insightful welcome address by Dolores O’Riordan, the Vice President for Global Engagement. During Global Week at UCD the participants will have the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of topics and initiatives that underscore the global outreach and collaborative spirit of our institution. - 10:15 - 10:25 Presentation of the Universitas 21 Award to the UCDVO staff team | UCD Global Lounge | The Universitas 21 Awards recognise and celebrate the best in international collaboration across the network. UCDVO was among the winners for 2024 and their achievement was acknowledged during the Universitas 21 Annual Network Meeting in Hong Kong earlier in the year. Register here.
- 10:30 - 11:30 Exploring opportunities and impact through the Erasmus+ programme | UCD Global Lounge | Did you know that the Erasmus+ programme offers more than 20 different funding opportunities in addition to intra European exchange or ‘traditional Erasmus’? This panel discussion will showcase some of the different funding opportunities available under the programme as we hear from colleagues who have leveraged Erasmus+ funding to deliver impactful educational projects in their fields. - 12:00 - 13:00 Cultural Tapestry: A Global Celebration hosted by UCD School of Civil Engineering | UCD Global Lounge | A captivating cultural celebration hosted by the UCD School of Civil Engineering, where we invite you to embark on a journey around the world without leaving campus. Our event promises an enriching experience featuring presentations from four to five students and staff, each offering a glimpse into the vibrant tapestry of cultures represented within our School community. - 13:30 - 14:30 Alumni Buddy Programme | UCD Global Lounge | We are excited to invite you to learn about the UCD Alumni Buddy Programme. This initiative connects incoming international graduate students with local UCD alumni, providing friendly support and guidance, especially during the initial period after their arrival in Dublin. The programme helps students get acquainted with the local community and participate in an enriching intercultural exchange.

- 11:00 - 12:30 Global Voices: Student Perspectives on community and belonging | UCD Global Lounge | At the heart of our community are the voices of our students, both inbound and outbound, whose experiences abroad enrich our collective journey. Through panel presentations and roundtable discussions, students will share their transformative experiences, insights, and reflections, offering glimpses into the myriad of ways in which global engagement shapes lives and perspectives. - 14:30 - 15:30 Echoes of Japan: UCD’s Community Engagement | UCD Global Lounge | The UCD Centre for Japanese Studies is excited to present an exhibit showcasing sample posters designed by our students. These posters were submitted for our Discovery Module, DSCY 10080 Gateways to Japan, dating back to 2019. The exhibit aims to highlight the creativity and academic achievements of our students while offering insights into Japanese culture and language. Register here.
- 16:00 - 17:00 Gaeltacht UCD Bilingual Workshop in Traditional Irish Song | UCD Global Lounge | Iarla Ó Muirthile from ‘Amhranaithe an Chlub’ a Dublin based traditional Irish singing group, will offer a bilingual (Irish-English) workshop in traditional song. Iarla will discuss and demonstrate traditional singing and participants will learn a song with both Irish and English verses.

- 10:30-11:30 MENU Culture Café Taster | UCD Global Lounge | Come along to a taster of the Multicultural Employee Network at UCD (MENU) Culture Café where MENU committee members will give you an overview of the types of activities they schedule regularly for members, including snapshots of their Recipe Book, new Book Club and more. Spanish Food Demo at Lunchtime | UCD Global Lounge | Join us for an exciting and delicious culinary event where you’ll experience the rich and diverse flavours of Spanish cuisine. - 15:45- 16:45 Gaeltacht UCD: Introduction to the Irish Language | UCD Global Lounge | Gaeltacht UCD will give an overview of the use of Irish in Ireland and participants will learn some simple greetings in Irish. This workshop is designed for those who may not be familiar with or who have had no prior exposure to the Irish language.
