Democracy & Environment Series IV: Irish Dairy Sector, Tuesday 24 September 2024, 12 noon to 2pm

Our Democracy & Environment series continues with The business case for delivering ambitious climate and water quality outcomes by the Irish dairy sector, and the policies it needs to do so at the Museum of Literature of Ireland (MoLI) on Tuesday 24 September 2024 at 12 noon to 2pm.

The session will focus on finding ways that work to make Irish dairy a leader that combines commercial success and global climate and ecological leadership mirroring Food Vision 2030.  There will be presentations by Darragh McCullough and Joe Leonard on "Learning by Doing", Professor Frank Convery will talk on “Policy choices that will deliver outcomes at scale – from ‘brutal realities’ to global leadership” and Alice Doyle will be the discussant.  The panel discussion will be facilitated by Damien O'Reilly, EU Affairs & Communications Manager ICOS.

Darragh McCullough is an Irish broadcaster and farmer specialising in agricultural and rural affairs and, Joe Leonard is an Irish farmer and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Nuffield Ireland and is the current Irish representative on the Board of Nuffield International.  Frank Convery is Emeritus Professor of Environmental Policy UCD and member of ‘Food Vision 2030’.  Alice Doyle is Deputy President of the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA), and member of the Teagasc Authority.

The session will conclude with Q&A session, and you can connect with colleagues and participants at a light networking lunch immediately after the seminar.

From Awareness to Action: Citizen-Led Climate Initiatives in the I-CHANGE project | Wednesday 25 September, 13.00 | James Joyce Library Link 3

Join us on Wednesday 25 September 2024 to hear from I-CHANGE's Anna Molter and Juan Esteban Quintero Marin on "From Awareness to Action: Citizen-Led Climate Initiatives in the I-CHANGE project." Anna and Juan will explore how Dublin's communities are turning climate knowledge into impactful action. Over the past three years, the I-CHANGE project has empowered citizens, schools, and local organisations to tackle pressing environmental challenges through innovative Living Labs. Discover how participants have monitored air quality and traffic, analyzed data, and implemented meaningful changes to reduce their carbon footprints. Anna and Juan will share key insights and discuss the successes, challenges, and future of citizen-driven climate action in Dublin.

This UCD citizen science community of practice hybrid talk will take place on Wednesday 25 September 2024 at 1-2pm in the UCD James Joyce Library Link 3 and on Zoom. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.
