Navigating the challenges and opportunities - Li Yansen

College life has been a rewarding yet challenging journey. While the modules at my college are well-suited to our academic needs, Stage 3 has proven to be particularly demanding. Although we had more modules in Stages 1 and 2, Stage 3 introduces more UCD modules, which are tougher, partly because the teachers speak in English, and sometimes, they speak quite fast.

One aspect of the UCD modules that I truly enjoy is the group projects. These projects are far more engaging than traditional lectures. Working in groups not only enhances our practical knowledge but also hones our communication and collaboration skills—essential tools for any future career.

I joined two clubs: the astronomy club and the bike club. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, I couldn't be as active a member as I had hoped. My primary focus remains on my studies, especially as I plan to study abroad. Among the countries I’m considering is Germany, which means I need to improve my German language skills.

Reflecting on my college journey, the early stages were particularly tough, especially during the pandemic. Those months were challenging. Now, as I navigate through Stage 3, the modules are more challenging, and the desire to achieve better grades keeps me constantly on my toes.

One of the highlights of my college experience has been the interactions with UCD professors. They are incredibly friendly and approachable. Conversations with Dr. Sajid, for instance, are always enlightening. We often discuss his home country, Pakistan, and his experiences studying in France. Dr. Sajid’s calm and thoughtful demeanour, coupled with his valuable suggestions, have been a great source of support.

As summer approaches, my plans are a blend of academics and personal pursuits. I will be spending most of my time on campus, preparing for the IELTS exam, studying German, and getting a head start on next year’s studies. Additionally, I will spend a few days with my grandparents, tending to the garden where I planted flowers. I'm eager to see how they have grown.
