Professor Michael O’Neill (UCD) is involved in the area of Trading, is leading the work package on Grammatical Evolution for Asset Management, and is a collaborator on the Algorithmic Trading and Financial Markets work package. He is one of the inventors of Grammatical Evolution is a founder of the UCD Natural Computing Research Applications group with Prof. Anthony Brabazon. Independently ranked in the Top 5 researchers of all time in his field (top 0.06% in a community of over 6000 researchers), he has a H-index of 24, over 240 publications, and over 2600 citations. Michael O’Neill and Anthony Brabazon have published a book on “Biologically Inspired Algorithms for Financial Modelling”, and co-edited four volumes on “Natural Computing in Computational Finance” all published by Springer.
In 2011, he hosted (with Brabazon and Ward) the ACM GECCO Conference in Dublin. This was only the second occasion in a history spanning over twenty years that the event left the North American continent. It attracted a record breaking 686 submissions (with a 38% acceptance rate) and approximately 600 delegates from 52 countries.
With Anthony Brabazon he is the co-founder (and past Co-Chair) of EvoFIN “The European Event on Evolutionary and Natural Computation in Finance and Economics”, which has been held annually since 2007.
